Ryoko Baltar is a very popular space pirate, but mostly due to her charity to poor sub-level citizens of Alpha Prime. It is shown that her beauty would cause male Galaxy Ranger members not to capture her and to desert their posts in order to join her. This has even applied to some members of the Infinity Guard to do so as well; not even women are immune to her beauty. Ryoko is secretly heir to the Baltar Guild, making her a princess. She is also an ally of the Explorers, after her guild HQ, the Terra Star, is invaded and infested with Xenecromorphs. She also becomes a love interest to Isaac.

Background[]

Ryoko Baltar was an only child, at least known to herself, but also remembered she had a loving mother and father. Circumstances had somehow caused the young girl to get separated or orphaned from them, and was raised by the Galuma Pirate Guild. Though as she got older, she grew to a lovely and elegant woman, despite being a pirate. This was kind of something that attracted most men to her, so she used it to her advantage. Sadly though, this also prompted her to be a bit fearful towards men, as she learned from unfortunate slave girls the hunger ravaging of men’s lust were, thus causing Ryoko to be fearful around them innerly, thus keeping her distance, though with male crewmates like her quartermaster, Diluke, she saw as an older brother.

Her intelligence and beauty managed to have her fly through the ranks and reach the rank of captain at the age of 14 Earth years. Given the ship, the Azaka as well as her own space station the Terra Star. Her accomplishments involved her able to infiltrate the Galaxy Ranger HQ station rather well. Though her fame has also caused her many enemies, including in the Guild; one of which is Tarant, the guild's most vilest and treacherous of the guild.

Her success stretched out as she was infamous for robbing Galaxy Ranger outposts as well as taking down ships of the New Order, making her one of the Top 10 of the New Order's most wanted list, her bounty stretching up to 80 Billion New Order/Alliance credits.

It seemed nothing fazed her or caught her interest. Until the day when a strange exploration ship suddenly managed to warp its way to a pirate barrage and took it down with a Gravity Pulse blast, enabling the Galaxy Rangers to arrest them all, one of them being Tarant's father.

Ryoko Baltar ordered to catch up to the ship and board it, meeting its crew as well as the captain (mostly everyone minus the original crew pointing at him) Isaac Shepard. Three of the crew - Ragit, Tak, and Chunk - forced a surrender when they found out Ryoko was on board. However, when she met Isaac, Ryoko was quite taken in with him. The young man didn't say or do much, but she could sense that there was something about him that drew her in. Immediately but rather reserved, as she admitted she was amazed at his quick-thinking, courage and inventive nature in using his own ship's engines to decimate an entire fleet of pirates without taking a life. She wanted him to join him with the pirates, much to the encouragement of Tak, Ragit, and Chunk (all three big fans of her). But much to her amazement, Isaac refused as he was currently on a mission to find something (though he wouldn't say what it was) as he also stated it wouldn't be much of a future if he was suddenly most wanted right away. Not being persistent but understanding, Ryoko smiled and accepted his answer, and allowed the transport to leave. She even deliberately failed to add the Falcon and Isaac's name in the Galuma Guild's enemies list.

Though it would not be the last time, as fate would play a cruel hand in testing her allegiance to the Guild.

Months after their first meeting, Ryoko couldn't help but think about the young man who didn't seem to be turned into a drooling fanboy over her: Isaac. It turned out during the months of not seeing him, Ryoko had read about rumors and his accomplishments (making contact with the Neptunians, treaty with the Kroo’Hans, etc) she found herself falling in love with Isaac. But soon, things began to change.

Because of Isaac’s accomplishments, including winning the hands of both Kori (princess of the Zamaranians) and Lumi (princess of the Saiyaoni), heiresses of two of the most powerful sentient dynasties and powers of the universe, the Galuma Guild was finding it worrisome that an outlaw made Baronette had so much power as well as powerful allies. One of the guild members, Tarant, still seething from being injured (a stab wound in his arm) from an encounter with Isaac before he became a legend, kidnapped the families of Ryoko’s crew, and threatened to kill them unless Ryoko killed Isaac. Using one of her disguises, Ryoko followed Isaac during a shopping trip on Yorkon, a Xandarian space station that acted as a freeport settlement in neutral space. The time spent with him was enough to make Ryoko forget the mission, as she felt it was their first date. It was then that she realized her feelings deeply for him… and that it was heartbreaking that she would have to kill the one she loved.

When the time was right, she faced Isaac and told him straight on she had to kill him, despite how she felt.

However, before she could kill him, Isaac gently walked towards her, despite her warnings for him to stay back, and gave her a gift that he shopped for that day... a simple star pendant. Realizing this and overcome with guilt, Ryoko dropped her disguise and told Isaac the truth. She then turned the gun she planned to use on Isaac on herself, tearfully apologizing and saying that with her death, Tarant couldn’t go through with killing the families of her crew. However, Kori, Lumi, and Attea, who were trailing them both at the time, had managed in a scenario to stop them and take down the pirates that had been trailing Ryoko to ensure she’d kill Isaac.

At that moment, the head of the Galaxy Rangers, Buck Quarkis, had made his move and arrested not just the pirates trailing them but Ryoko as well. He assured her that the families of her crew were safe due to a message sent by Kyo, who had a few weeks ago formulated a plan in which she’d send a few droids to cause a distraction, allowing the families to escape, along with their ship. Accepting her arrest, Ryoko was about to be taken away, but not before Isaac gave her back the pendant. She refused it as it was a gift for her disguise but Isaac admitted he knew it was her the whole time. Freaking out, Ryoko asked how he knew, and he pointed out that she had a habit of rubbing her index and middle fingers in a person’s palm when she held their hands, making Ryoko giggle at such a thing to remember of a girl. Before taken away, Ryoko planted a kiss on his lips, in front of his friends and Kori and the other girls, as she hoped to see him again.

Apparently, it wasn’t the last of her, as being captured turned out to have been a blessing for Ryoko and her crew. As per procedure, her genetic profile was taken as a part of her booking. When it was fully analyzed, ti was discovered, with a little President Eco’s wife, Lady Seto, that some of her information was hidden. It turned out that Ryoko was in fact the last child of the Baltar family, who had established a home on a planet that was one year away from joining the Galactic Alliance as a monarchy. This made Ryoko a princess and heir to the throne. When this information was given to GR head, he made the hasty decision to have Ryoko become a privateer in service to the Alliance. She agreed, as long as she would help Isaac and the Falcon, even taking up the mantle as an outlaw like the Falcon’s crew were.

Once on station again on the Terra Star alongside the Falcon for refueling and much R and R, Ryoko was informed of her heritage and reunited with her grandfather, King Baltar (albeit it was a holographic projection of him) ruler of the Baltar Guild. He invited her to return to him, but she kindly refused, preferring to stay at Isaac’s side, much to his embarrassment and the other girls’ fury.

Ryoko then vowed to stay with and serve alongside Isaac for the rest of her days.

Although Seto, who had arranged the meeting, was not pleased with her decision, she abided by it. Ryoko became a powerful ally to the Falcon, as well as her crew, as she helped out with missions to defeat the New Order, as well as to find the Creators’ homeworld and find out the mystery of why they created the Xenecromorphs. She also becomes one of Isaac’s fiances in political marriage, but is happy to be with him, as she is in love with him.

Personality[]

Although a Space Pirate and a member of the dreaded Galuma Pirate Guild, Ryoko Baltar is hardly as bloodthirsty as that infamous space pirate was rumored to be, and is the most educated and cultured pirate there was. She is well-versed in many customs from other planets, including the Japanese Tea Ceremony. And her beauty is such that some male, and a few female, Galaxy Ranger members would be willing to desert their posts in order to join her (it is rumored that there are many "Ryoko Baltar Fan Clubs" in some G.R. posts).

Within the pirate guild, however, Ryoko had few friends, and was hostile to Tarant, the guild's vilest member. However, she is also a great friend of another of the guild's members, Kyo Komachi.

Ryoko is also quite an accomplished actress as she has the poise and elegance to pull off fooling anyone.

The most successful pirate in the Galuma Guild, Ryoko is also the most cultured.

Despite her calm nature, Ryoko can easily get flustered and emotional. One instance was when she was baffled on how the Falcon was able to track her down, until she collapsed on her knees, anime-comically crying as she couldn’t figure out how they were so lucky in catching up to her. She also doesn’t betray or leave her friends behind, as show when Tarant threatened to kill the families of her crew unless she killed Isaac. Though she also knew she couldn’t betray Isaac as she was in love with him, and opted to kill herself to ensure both her crew’s families and Isaac would live, meaning she is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for those she cares for deeply. As Isaac put it to her once, ‘My crew is my only family. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for them’, something that the two have in common as their crew is like family to them.

It seems that she also is wary around guys, mostly perverted ones, much like Isaac is wary around girls. And much like Isaac is comfortable around Kori, Ryoko is strangely comfortable around him. At first she tried to write it off as thinking it was convenience but spending time with him in her disguises, she came to realize how she felt about him.

Ryoko isn’t vain or prideful of her looks, but she does maintain care for it. And she can get a bit competitive when she and the other girls try to use their womanly charms to seduce Isaac.

Ryoko is a romantic at heart, as she gets swooned easily in romantic settings, and sometimes often lets her imagination get the better of her.

Skills/Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Peak Physical Xandarian Condition: Ryoko was training since her pirate adoption to fight. As well as to stay fit.
  • Body Modification: Like most Xandarians, Ryoko was given body modification to help her adapt to extreme environments, and later on given further for combat. The following mods are:
    • Enhanced Physical Strength
    • Enhanced Reflexes and Reaction Timing
    • Babel Nano-Translator
  • Shapeshifting: Apparently, this modification was given to her at birth as a safety feature. Though she can only shapeshift into a being of equal size, so they’re mostly women. Though she does have a secondary form that isn’t solely to change appearance, that of a mermaid’s tail and even making fish skin/scales over her breasts as a natural bikini top. Though she can’t breathe underwater, she can swim faster with the mermaid tail.
  • Invisibility: An unexpected side-effect of the Shapeshifting Mod is that her body can deflect light enabling her to go invisible. Clothes are a different option as only her SIG battle and Space suit can go invisible with her, regular clothes are discarded to prevent being spotted.

Skills[]

  • Swordsmanship
  • Piloting Skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Master Hand-to-Hand Combat
  • Master of Disguise
  • Diplomatic Skills: Despite being a pirate, she carries an air about her that reads diplomat and a noble. Her negotiation skills make her a hard person to say no when it comes to bartering.
  • Tea Practices: She well versed in many rituals, including the Japanese Tea Ceremony.
  • Cooking: Despite being a captain, Ryoko is an amazing cook.

Equipment[]

  • SIG Suit – Modified Huntress Suit: The Hunter suit is standard for those who use stealth over power and strength, as well as equipped speed. This suit is perfect for Ryoko as she is more of a speed and stealth fighter, as well as using infiltration.
  • Cloaking Cape
  • Hidden Arm Blades
  • Arm-Mounted Blaster
  • Modified Combat Knife (x2): Blades made out of Neo-Mithrinite, they are strong enough to cut through Kevlar, and modified with plasma blade tips.
  • Modified Blaster Revolvers: These guns fire concentrated bullet blasts of plasma, and also come with silences for stealth jobs.
    • Ruby Red Magnum: a Magnum blaster she keeps to sneak with her for easy travel.
  • Rapier Katana: A rapier-shaped katana made of Neo-Mithrinite and installed a plasma blade, Ryoko uses this blade with the ferocity of killer instincts.
  • Star Pendant: Not an actual piece of jewelry, but Ryoko cherishes it, as it was the first gift Isaac ever gave her.

Voice Actor[]

Trivia[]

  • Ryoko Baltar is based off of Ryoko Balta of Tenchi Muyo GXP.
  • It’s revealed that her shapeshifting body modification was hereditary from her mother, as she liked to roleplay with her husband, according to her grandfather. Although her transformation isn’t merely an appearance, but also a full genetic transformation, effectively two bodies in one.
    • It’s also revealed this ability will pass to her children.
